Activities
The Surrey Historic Buildings Trust organises a range of activities to further its core purpose by promoting awareness and understanding of the need for repair and conservation of the county’s historic buildings, their settings and the traditional craft skills required for their upkeep.
Friends of SHBT are kept informed of these activities and receive discounts on the costs of events. Members of the public are often entitled to join these events where the number of attendees is not restricted.
The Trust has a series of different activities that the Friends of SHBT, an accompanying companion, and members of the public can enjoy. These range from activities that can be attended in-person, some that are delivered online, and other offerings that can be emailed by subscription.
The in-person activities include participating in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) when the attendees can hear how SHBT has progressed through the year, listen to a talk, often presented by an eminent heritage specialist on a matter relevant to Surrey’s historic environment, and subsequently discuss matters of mutual interest.
In the last two years we have learnt what makes Surrey’s architectural heritage distinct to the county and the history of Hascombe with an insight to the restoration of Cranleigh Cottage Hospital.
The Trust holds an awards ceremony bi-annually. These are held in a historic venue and display local projects that represent the best conservation work and quality workmanship that the county has to offer. This late afternoon event starts with networking opportunities and a presentation lecture before the announcement of the winners of the awards themselves. Additionally, site visits, guided tours, talks, and discussions are arranged throughout the year, according to demand. Online activities are not as susceptible to the weather as site visits and can vary from attending a live webinar presentation followed by a Q.& A. session or listening to a previously recorded talk which can be enjoyed at an individually convenient time.
