Surrey Historic Buildings Trust has announced its latest conservation grants: – £4,000 for repairs to the graves of race horses including 1890s Derby winners in woodland adjacent to The Durdans riding stables in Chalk Lane, Epsom. – £3,000 for the neo-classical Hope Mausoleum in Chart Park, Dorking, which dates from the Regency era. – £3,000 grant for window repairs at Leith Hill Place, near Holmbury St Mary, the home of composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. – £1,500 for restoration of the haha at Goddards, Abinger Common, an “Arts & Crafts” home created by architect Sir Edwin...

Surrey Historic Buildings Trust (SHBT) has announced a new tranche of grants for essential heritage conservation work across Surrey . The latest beneficiaries of the Trust’s support include The Durdans in Epsom, Goddards in Abinger Common, and Betchworth Lime Kilns. Goddards, a Grade II Listed house in Abinger Common, will receive a £1,500 grant from the Trust for restoration of the ha-ha in the grounds. The creation of architect Sir Edwin Lutyens and garden designer Gertrude Jekyll, Goddards was built in 1898-1900 and exemplifies the traditional “ Surrey style”. The property is now owned by the...
